Real lime plasters "Venetian Plasters" is a term widely used to describe a look, not an actual product.  The many of the synthetic plasters made by paint manufacturers are designed to emulate the look of authentic plasters, but it contains synthetic or acrylic based products with a small amount of marble dust thrown in.  It is not the real deal!

​Italian Lime Plasters are all natural lime plaster that is made from marble and other natural aggregates.  It is a "green building product" and has many healthy benefits!  

True Italian Lime Plasters are manufactured in a small region of Northern Italy not far from Venice. The limestone is not quarried but dredged from river beds that pile up with pebbles each spring.  These rivers originate in the dolomite Mountains of Northern Italy where these stones travel hundreds of kilometers tumbling down the streams for decades.

Then the Magnesium grade limestone (Calcium Carbonate) is heated in large a furnace to product calcium Oxide.  This produces the lime powder or flour which is the foundation.  Water is then added and it is aged for months even as long as 100 years!  The result produces Calcium Hydroxide or Hydrated slaked lime, the lime is then blended with marble and other aggregates, then sealed in buckets.  Hence the plaster is born!
